Our Budapest apartments
A home from home in Budapest
We are Emma Mackintosh and Leigh Stewardson and we live and work close to Hawkshead in the English Lake District. The Lakes are beautiful, full of nature and very rural. We grow our own veg, make elderflower champagne in summer and have ducks. Having apartments in Budapest, for us, provides a balance. The city is easy to navigate, just slightly quirky and also very beautiful. The culture is vibrant and there is always music to listen to, events to see, sights as yet unvisited…
We bought apartments in Budapest to share this love with others as well as provide a base for ourselves. We love the classic architecture and history and have chosen historic buildings in the very centre of Budapest for our apartments, updating them to give modern comfort while retaining high ceilings and a traditional feel.
We have property managers in Budapest who look after the apartments and provide local information. They are committed to making sure that your stay is comfortable. We can arrange airport transfers, special treats on arrival for special occasions, etc… and we are both on hand before your stay to help and provide advice, help and knowledge.
We look forward to welcoming you!
Emma is a flameworker, melting rods and tubes of glass with a hot torch to make finished pieces. She has demonstrated her skill nationally and internationally, has had work in the 2015 Glass Biennale, part of the International Festival of Glass and the US Glass Society Lifeforms exhibition in 2014 and was a finalist in the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers Commission Competition, 2015 and Great Fire of London Schools Project 2016. Her work can be seen in both apartments, in the glass chandeliers and the glass knobs that decorate the bedside tables (and in Krista, the coat hooks). More of her glass is featured as decoration and glassware in both apartments.

The watercolour pictures on the apartment walls are also very special and painted by Emma’s great grandmother.
We love arts and crafts and the art deco/art nouveau feel. We have spent many (probably too many!) hours sourcing curtains for the apartments, choosing fabric or finished curtains (when we can find them long enough…) that we like. We have aimed for quality, picking Liberty, Laura Ashley, Zoffany etc… and making sure that where necessary the curtains are blackout lined.
These apartments feel to us like a home from home and we hope that you will feel the same.
