Budapest - Walks
Walking is a great way to take in the atmosphere and sights of this beautiful city, and to discover hidden gems.
For excellent views across the city, walk up Gellert Hill from Erzsebet Hid to the Citadel at the top.
On the same side of the river, take the funicular railway up to Buda Castle and walk around old Buda, taking in the Fisherman's Bastion and St Matthias Church. The Chain Bridge across the Danube is worth walking across, as are the other bridges, while a walk along the Danube on the Pest or Buda side
is also very enjoyable.
Still on the Danube, Margitsziget (Margaret Island) is a green park-like area popular for walks and sports and makes a good break from the bustle of the city. The City Park, to the North of Andrassy Ut, is another green space with the vast space of Heroes Square on one side and the Vajdahunyad castle as well as other interesting sights and buildings to explore.
In the heart of Pest, walk from Parliament through Szabadsag Ter to Szent Istvan Basilica, from Vorosmarty Ter to the Market along Vaci utca, or just meander through the Jewish quarter between Andrassy Ut, Rakoczi Ut and Erzsebet Korut.
